Archaea are a group of organisms alongside eukaryotes and bacteria. Many archaea can grow in extreme environments. We will focus on the enzymes involved in the biosynthesis of isoprenoid compounds, particularly membrane lipids, in Archaea, and investigate the reaction mechanisms and evolutionary significance of these enzymes.
